I hope you have had a wonderful half term break and made the most of this wonderful weather. We have spent most days in the garden or going for walks/bike rides to the local fields for picnics. What have you all been doing?
This term I will be in school teaching the Year 1 children and Mrs Wylde will be providing childcare for one of the groups. This means that Mrs Bevan will now we setting your daily home learning sessions Monday to Friday but will be following our format so you don't have to learn a different way of working. Mrs Sandberg will be setting you some science activities also during the week. Please send any questions you have about these lessons to Mrs Bevan or Mrs Sandberg.
I will be checking the class blogs on Purple Mash at the end of the school day to approve any comments. You are still able to email me but it will take me much longer to get back to you. If you have any urgent questions for me then please ring the school office, I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Have a lovely week
Mrs Lane and Mrs Wylde
Friday, 5th June
Next week we will be making POP UP BOOKS and a BALLOON CAR.
Over the weekend, start collecting:
A variety of pop-up books, card, glue, scissors, sticky tape, round balloons, plastic straws, glue, kebab sticks or dowel, rubber bands, string, a selection of ‘wheels’ (such as cotton reels, wooden beads, LEGO® or cut out your own from cardboard).
It’s going to be fun!
Hello Newton Class,
If you log into Purple Mash, you can see the feedback I have given you for your learning. It is really important that you look at it incase I have given you some improvement points or actions for the next lesson.
If you have not engaged in any of the Purple Mash activities, please ask your parents to take a photo of at least one activity you have done and email it to me. I will then give feedback through email.
Have a good weekend
Here we go for another week of home learning!
Our English sessions will be the same for each year group for the next few weeks. Some days I will ask you to complete the whole lesson for that day, but some days I will ask you to only complete the activities to a certain point. I am doing this to give you more time to really think about what you are learning and to give it your best go! I am very aware that some of these lessons will take longer than the reccomended 30mins. If this happens then you can just stop at that point or if you wanted to complete it then please do!
Maths worksheets will now only be available on our website but you can still use the White Rose website to watch the videos or BBC Bite size. These are both running alongside each other. We are skipping one week to be able to be syncronised with the rest of the school. We will pick up that lost week at some point so please do not worry!
It is important that you give the tasks your very best effort for the 30mins we are asking of you. You do not need to work any longer than 30mins per session unless you really wanted too. In total, your learning should come to under 2 hours a day, this will include a break for a drink and snack.
Mrs Wylde is doing an amazing job on a Friday providing you with some exciting lessons, these will continue. We are providing you with an additional pic n mix of topics/subjects if you would like to do these instead of a session once in a while or ontop of what you are doing. It is optional, you DO NOT need to have a go at any of these, they are there if you want them.
Have a good week
There is a lot of work here for your child to chose bits from. Please do not expect them to do everything, particularly in the English sheets.
Each day we would like your child to do 30-40 minutes of both English and Maths plus some reading or reading comprehension, some spellings and some times tables (SumDog, Times Tables Rock Stars or NumBots)
Hello Newton Class,
I will be joining your class to teach you on a Friday when school starts again , but in the meantime I am going to be setting your home learning each Friday - today we will be doing some fun art work so I hope you are feeling creative!
I look forward to seeing you all when we are back in school,
Hello Newton Class
Thank you to everyone who has been working their socks off at home to complete the home learning everday. By doing this, you are helping to keep those brains working for when we evenually start back to school.

Tomorrow she will be setting you some exciting learning that includes our usual sessions (maths, English, spellings) but will also include some of those other subjects you will be missing out on including science and geography.
A big welcome to Mrs Wylde!

Welcome to Term 5
Happy Easter to everyone! I hope you have all had a lovely break at home staying safe, enjoying the weather and spending time with your families.
Note - All children to 'hand in' their Purple Mash diaries from before Easter. If you do not have your log ins please ask your parents to email or ring school.
End of Term
I have added a list of websites that you may find useful over the Easter holidays. These were found by Mrs Bevan so a big thank you and thumbs up for her.
I have also given some ideas for you to do over the next two weeks if you find you need a little project to keep you occupied. I am not providing any formal homework over these two weeks.
Hi, I have added the PDF documents that some parents have not been able to access in the zip file for English. Hope this helps.
Thursday 2nd April 2020
It's almost the weekend and very nearly the Easter Holidays!
Enjoy the activities :)
Wednesday 1st April 2020
Thank you for adding so many wonderful pages to your Purple Mash diaries.
I thought it would be lovely to share some ideas/activities you have had at home with each other. Let me know what you have found enjoyable and what has helped make lasting memories. I will happily share these on our website for other parents to do with their children.
Tuesday 31st March 2020
Please find your activities for today here. I look forward to reading more of your school closure diaries.
Monday 30th March 2020
Hello Newton Class
Please read my letter to you and then have a go at the activities I have set you today.
Friday 27th March 2020
Happy Friday everybody!
Well done for all the activities you have been doing at home. Mrs. Churchill has started a gallery on the website so keep on sending in pictures - staff and friends love seeing what you are up to.
I hope the online lessons have been good. Remember they will keep on adding lessons for every single day while school is closed. Today I am sharing some resources to help inspire reading and writing. You all have wonderful imaginations, so keep on reading/listening to stories and write your own creative pieces.
Inspiration for writing
Remember to focus on fantastic description in your writing with exciting adjectives, verbs and adverbs. Think about all of your senses when describing too.
Well, it's farewell from me today. Mrs. Lane will be adding learning tasks for you from Monday. It has been a privilege to teach you all, you work so hard. Keep up your reading and times tables practise and enjoy the learning tasks posted on this page.
Keep well and keep smiling!
Classroom Secrets Kids
I hope you are all well and able to enjoy this lovely weather despite being at home much of the time. Hopefully, you have had a chance to try out whiterosemaths lessons and activities.
I have also signed up everybody in Newton class to Classroom secrets kids. This is a great resource with video teaching tutorials linked to independent tasks as well as interactive games the children can play. There are resources for maths, reading comprehension, gps (grammar, punctuation, spelling), as well as separate spelling activities.
These resources will be added to each week so that the children can access maths, reading, grammar, punctuation and spelling activities every single day.
Open the document below to find your username and the password for everybody is: school.
We will continue to post learning activities and links. I have left it up to you to select the year group/level of difficulty so that all activities are accessible to all children.
Dear Newton class children and parents,
I hope you are keeping well. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of changes ahead and to let you know how you can continue your learning at home, whether you are staying at home or you are still coming in to school.
Firstly, as you know I have been teaching at Hilmarton School to cover Mrs. Lane’s maternity leave while she has been at home with her new baby. This is my last week at Hilmarton School and Mrs. Lane will return next week. Because I have a vulnerable family member I have been at home since last week so haven’t seen any of you since last Tuesday. This means I haven’t had the chance to say farewell properly so this is farewell for now but I would love to come in to school to say goodbye properly when school life returns to normal.
It has been an absolute pleasure to teach Newton class and to work with such a fantastic team of staff. I feel privileged to have been part of the Hilmarton School family and will remember my time with you all very fondly.
A warm welcome back to Mrs. Lane, most of you have been taught by Mrs. Lane before and I know she is looking forward to working with you again and to meeting those of you who have joined our school more recently.
This week, I will post links on the website to free online lessons you can carry out at home. I will gradually add more so that I don’t bombard you. Various teaching resource websites have promised to give free access to daily lessons which they will regularly add to throughout the school closure period.
Firstly, you will find below a link to Whiterose maths. They have a daily lesson which includes a tutorial video and activities for children to complete. Also, you will find below a list of spellings which we work through with children throughout years 3 and 4, so that you can continue to practise these.
Keep well and I look forward to visiting you when everybody at school is back together again.
Keep coming back to the class page to see new resources from myself and next week, from Mrs. Lane.
My best wishes to you all,
Welcome to Newton!
Do you have any ideas for this page? Why not let your Teacher know!
Welcome back - Summer Term
What a fantastic first week we have had after the long Easter break. The children have all been very enthusiastic about their holidays.
The next two terms will be focussed on the topic 'Grusome Tudors.' We are very excited and are looking forward to learning lots about this time period. The children are welcome to bring any non-fiction book in from home about the Tudors so they can share it with the class.
In science, we will be learning about rocks, fossils and soils. We will be completing a few investigations with rocks and therefore would like to make our own 'pet rocks'. Please bring a rock into school that is no bigger than the palm of your hand before Thursday 2nd May, 2019.
Maths - please practice times tables daily with your child. They have access to Sumdog on iPads and laptops.
As usual, PE will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child has their PE kit, a hat and water bottle with them.
Welcome to Term 3
This year is flying by already! Have a look at our topic web and our class letter for more information this term.
The website will be updated with the exciting activities we do so keep coming back to have a look.
This term Newton Class (and Rosen Class) are learning relaxation techniques - working with the Anna Freud Institute. We are learning to control our breathing and deep muscle relaxation.
So why not join us .. and practice your box breathing? See the parent information sheet below or search 'Breathe like a Navy Seal'
Autumn Term 2
In Term 2 we were looking at Stone Age to Iron Age.
The start of the term went off to a terrific start with a visit from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust who kindly taught us Stone Age cooking. We had the opportunity to light fires and to cook dough over the open fire. Some of us even managed to have some popcorn which was popped on the fire. Unfortunately, our second group didnt get to have any as it all fell into the fire! The children thought this was rather funny!
Our trip to Avebury was fantastic! We all learned so much whilst on the henge and could actually hold some Stone Age items as well as look at skeletons in the Museum.
As part of our topic we spent time under the tables where we could find a variety of cave paintings. We had to work out what the messages were in the cave paintings and have a go at drawing a message to our partners. From this we then used chalk and charcoal to make our own cave paintings in pairs. These have been displayed in our old cloakroom. This was one of the best sessions we have had with all children enthusiastic and full of energy.
What an amazing term we had!
Welcome to Newton Class
Autumn Term 1 2018-2019
Well, what a busy start to our brand new term and there are many exciting things ahead of us!
Our first week started with a big boom, the children were welcomed into school with a variety of circus-based activities and The Greatest Showman soundtrack on repeat.
Our topic for the term is ‘This is me’ where we have been thinking about all the special things that make us who we are and how we work together to be a team in Newton Class. Ask us about ‘Fantastic Walking’, ‘Instant Stopping’ and ‘superb lining up’. We have also been talking about our ‘Learning Magic,’ this focusses on how our positive mind-sets help us learn.
At the end of term we will be performing the ‘This is Me’ dance (we are learning the actual moves from the movie!) and we are looking forward to showing off all our amazing learning at our Class Celebration.
Below you will find any letters and parent overviews as well as any useful information and links to websites.
