PSHE & RSHE Curriculum
At Hilmarton Primary School, our PSHE/RHSE (Personal, Social and Health Education / Relationships, Sex & Health Education) curriculum is thoughtfully designed to ensure that emotional wellbeing, compassion, resilience and mental health support are central to our teaching. The SCARF programme is used as our core framework, supplemented with additional wellbeing and emotional literacy teaching, alongside weekly diversity assemblies. The helps us ensure the skills and topics taught within PSHCE at Hilmarton Primary are fundamental to the holistic development of every child.
The intent of our PSHCE curriculum is to:
• Equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, and language to live healthy, safe, fulfilling, responsible, and balanced lives.
• Foster emotional resilience and mental wellbeing.
• Develop a strong sense of self-awareness and independence, enabling pupils to understand and manage their choice of decisions and actions effectively.
• Promote compassion and respect for diversity, ensuring pupils appreciate and celebrate differences and understand their responsibilities as global citizens.
Our school values, Kindness, Empathy, Honesty, Courage, Perseverance, and Gratitude, are embedded both in the curriculum content and in daily practice, promoting a culture where pupils learn to value themselves and others.
Our termly themes, across the whole school, are:
• Rights and Responsibilities
• Being My Best
• Keeping Safe
• Money
• Me and My Relationships / Valuing Difference
• Growing and Changing
